Roll Your Own Tray
I was contacted by a local company to try and create a test/prototype for a roll-your-own-tray based on one of their models. This is what I came up with.
I had a couple of clever ideas they had never seen before. This is actually made from a piece of poplar and turned out looking very cool. There is a “bowl holder” and an exit or dumping spout/funnel. Upon further review we decided the thumb groove to the left corner had to go and the round holes needed a different alignment. There is a spot for lighters, and papers and any other utensils that may be needed. The rolling area has rounded edges around the bottom to make clean out easy. Each one is hand cut, not machine reproduced. There was a certain amount of freehanding with the router. I made this for Green Clouds Rolling Supplies. Below are finished pieces.
This was a test piece initially. Anytime I have to set up something brand new I try it out on less expensive wood the limit the loss if something doesn’t work the way I thought. This turned out fine at each step. But I decided to have a bit of fun with it and highlighted some of the details with a torch. A lot of people liked this look.
